Recognized by clients for his enthusiasm and talent for involving them in interactive communications trainings, Robert Dickman generates breakthrough insights in how to make daily business communications more engaging. His consulting improves clients' communications by improving both message content and delivery using narrative techniques developed from Western rhetorical and dramatic traditions. Collaborating with senior management teams, he has developed workshops for clients at Ford Motor Company, Mattel Toys and Shell Oil. In these sessions he has helped companies redefine goals, clarify core values, overcome communication obstacles, increase sales, unleash new ideas and leverage their combined persuasive forces through the use of storytelling. Robert also coaches clients on how to use their communications to create the high level of commitment required to successfully execute new initiatives and drive forward organizational change.
With a recognized expertise in narrative communications for business, sales training and team building, Robert facilitates tailored interventions to generate authentic learning to achieve clients' business objectives. He has also developed a proprietary method (The Five Organizing Principles of Story) which improves communication skills and innate storytelling abilities. This enhanced ability has many applications appreciated by clients including: engaging difficult audiences in new ventures; building a brand story; increasing sales and improving team problem solving abilities. Robert also coaches senior managers in financial, retail and manufacturing industries on their individual communication challenges including media appearances.
His seminar "Leadership Communication-Why Great Leaders are Great Storytellers" has been conducted throughout the U.S. for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to rapidly expanding small business enterprises. As a thought leader in the field of narrative communication, he writes for MIT and Pegasus Communications, including his recent article, "Changing Organizations Through the Power of Story," which appeared in The Systems Thinker Magazine. Currently, Robert and Richard Maxwell have writen a book for HarperCollins called The Elements of Persuasion. Robert is an active member and seminar leader at The Society for Organizational Learning in Boston and a member of ASTD. Robert holds a B.A. in psychology from Goddard and studied psychology and philosophy at Union Graduate School in Ohio and the Institute de Gnosology in Santiago, Chile. Robert is a graduate of the Hudson Institute's executive coaching program and is an International Coaching Federation certified coach.
